1. YELLOW-TAILED WOOLLY MONKEY (Oreonax flavicauda).
These endemic primates live in the cloudy forest northern Peru (as foggy as the inca trail to Machupicchu).
It only exists in Peru jungle and boasts a huge tail (longer than its body) to get fruits, leaves and flowers from tall trees. Additionally, its population throughout Peruvian rainforest is only 250 specimens on average.
2. JAGUAR (Panthera onca).
This powerful mammal is the largest cat species along South America. Therefore, many civilizations have considered it as a sacred being. However, hunters did not think the same and began to capture them to trade their skin and fangs.

3. BALD UAKARI (Cacajao calvus).

4. GIANT ANTEATER (Myrmecophaga tridactila).
Also known as ant bear, it is an insectivorous mammal and the largest anteater in South America, because it can reach 182 – 217 cm. in length and 33 to 50 Kg. in weight.

5. SPECTACLED BEAR (Tremarctos ornatus).
If you’ve ever wondered “what animals is Peru known for?” The so-called andean bear, andean short-faced bear, or mountain bear; it is the only surviving species of bear native to South America. They boast a distinctive beige or ginger-colored markings at face and chest and its diet is based mainly on herbs, fruits and bromeliads.

6. GOELDI’S MARMOSET (Callimico goeldii).
Also called Goeldi’s monkey, it lives in the high jungle in Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador. These primates are blackish in color and prefer to live beneath dense scrubby undergrowth perhaps that is why these animals are difficult to find.

7. GIANT RIVER OTTER (Pteronura brasiliensis)

Known as boto or bufeo, they inhabit along the amazon riversides inside the exuberant rainforest. Did you know that it is one of the five species of freshwater dolphins living on earth?

10. WHITE-BELLIED SPIDER MONKEY (Ateles belzebuth).
Also called long-haired spider monkey or white-fronted, it is a species of spider monkey that inhabits Peru Amazon jungle and many other amazon countries.
As well, they live in groups of 20 to 40 individuals among northern Peru rainforest. Due to hunting, they stop spreading out the large jungle of peru.
