Full Itinerary: Tambopata’s Boundless Jungle

Upon your arrival at Puerto Maldonado airport, your guide with expertise in naturalism will be there to greet you. Following a brief stop in the town for storing larger luggage, proceed to the pier and embark on a journey to the jungle lodge aboard a covered motorized boat. Along the way, observe bird species commonly found along the local river and forest edges. It’s worth noting that the Tambopata Rainforest area boasts the record for the highest number of bird sightings in a single region.

Indulge in a welcome drink and an orientation session. Prior to dinner, take a nighttime stroll around the lodge premises. Acquire insights into the indigenous flora and fauna, and equip yourself with a flashlight to explore the wildlife inhabiting the lodge surroundings. Benefit from the assistance of the skilled and knowledgeable naturalist guide in discovering numerous concealed creatures, with approximately half of the animals being nocturnal in the rainforest.

People that live around the Amazon's river depend on boats to movilyze.

Enjoy overnight camping at the heart of the rainforest!

Board a boat headed to the National Reserve and the area of Collpa de Guacamayos.

Set up camp on arrival, and have the remainder of the afternoon to explore the surrounding trail system of the rainforest, before sleeping under the forest canopy.

Enjoy a refreshing dip in the cool river, with any free time, before dinner.

Many macaws gather around the clay licks to eat.

Wake up early to journey to one of the world’s largest clay licks.

Arrive before dawn, preceding the birds, and observe as they seek minerals, salts, and the digestive benefits of clay particles.

Anticipate witnessing a significant number of birds—on average, numerous macaws and smaller parrots, including scarlet, blue-and-yellow, red-and-green macaws, as well as chestnut-fronted and blue-headed parrots. The duration of the visit varies based on weather conditions and bird activity, but typically concludes in time for breakfast at the campsite around 08:30.

After a hike in the late morning through the trail system to spot some of the nine monkey species in the area, we will venture upriver after lunch to explore a clear forest stream, offering an opportunity for bathing. Camping will follow.

A bird observatory, strategically placed.

A second opportunity to witness the lick. Return to lodge in the early afternoon in time for lunch

Following what promises to be an exhilarating experience observing the birds at the clay lick, return to the campsite for an enjoyable breakfast.

Break down the camp, travel back downstream, and reach the lodge before lunch.

The afternoon offers leisure time, providing opportunities to relax in hammocks, take a refreshing swim in the cool swimming hole, or explore a nearby working plantation. In the evening, embark on a boat excursion to search for caiman (alligators) before dinner.

An alligator surfaces partially over the Amazon's river on the look for its next prey.

After breakfast, return by canoe to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the airport for departure

The departure back to the city of Puerto Maldonado is planned based on the group’s flight schedule.

In the mornings, you have the opportunity to observe the wildlife, which is notably active during this time, often hearing the sounds of howler monkeys.

Your guide will provide assistance upon your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, accompanying you to the airport and providing support for your departure flight.

Maldonado's bridge indicates the proximity to the city's vicinity.
