RAINFOREST WEATHER

Tambopata is subtropical forest with high humidity, and this wonderful rainforest weather has an average annual temperature of 78°F/26°C, and during one year, weather fluctuates between 50°F/10 °C and 100°F/38°C.

The low rainforest weather sometimes gets a little bit colder; due to cold winds that come from the Antarctic through the Andes mountain range.  Therefore, lower temperatures with cloudy days associated with persistent drizzle. That is the popular “friaje” season.

The friaje takes place in June and July and lasts two to three days. In addition, along the boundless jungle, there is a drying season (April – December) and a raining season from January to March.

FOREST TYPES

According to the types of forest map among the exuberant rainforest from Tambopata Natural Reserve and its buffering zone, there are 7 types of forests:

  • Flooded alluvial forest.
  • Lower terrace forest.
  • Higher terrace forest.
  • Light Dissected Terrace Forest.
  • Strong Dissected Terrace Forest.
  • Low hill forest with steep slopes.
  • High hill forest with gentle slopes.

Access to the pure rainforest of Tambopata:

Madre de Dios region has 3 provinces: Tambopata, Manu and Tahuamanu. Meanwhile, Puerto Maldonado is the capital of the most populated region, which is Tambopata; and there are two main ways towards Puerto Maldonado.

The first one is through a flight from Cusco, it will take not more than 50 minutes, and before landing you could see the phenomenal jungle and the stunning Tambopata river.

The second way to reach Maldonado is by bus from Cusco; however this option is a bit tiring, owing to you must travel 7 hours.
