Full Day Itinerary 1

Pick up at 4AM from your hotel. The drive itself is very interesting as we have amazing views of the mountains and valleys as we drive along, also passing through a few indigenous villages and cornfields on route to the trailhead.

The drive to Soraypampa is about 3 hours, and we will be starting our hike at an elevation of 3800 meters/12,460 feet. Here, surrounded by majestic mountains and valleys, you will enjoy breakfast to give you lots of energy before we start our ascent. The uphill hike is about 2 hours, with your guide showing and explaining about the various flora and fauna along the way, perhaps stopping for a postcard-perfect shot of the snow-capped peaks here and there.

At the top is the magnificent Blue Lagoon, a very special shade of deep turquoise with snow-capped Humantay glacial mountain in the background. The descent is usually a bit quicker than your initial climb, and when we get to the bottom, we’ll have a nice lunch ready for you. With our hearts and bellies full, we will start our 3-hour return to Cusco in the bus.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much time should I plan to spend in Cusco to properly acclimatize before starting a high-altitude trek?

For those venturing from areas of lower elevation, dedicating a span of two to three days within Cusco's borders is strongly advised. This duration facilitates the necessary physiological adaptations, reducing the likelihood of experiencing debilitating symptoms that could otherwise impede your upcoming excursion.

However, should your travels have previously immersed you within similar altitudinal realms elsewhere in Peru, a singular day of respite and revitalization in Cusco remains a prudent precaution. This interlude not only allows for recuperation from any prior exertions but also presents an opportune window to bask in the city's unique allure before commencing your expedition.
