Most of the day will be an ascent, approximately 9 kilometers long, which will take us to the first mountain pass of the Inca Trail, the Abra Warmiwañusca (Dead Woman’s Pass). Along the way it is possible to see deer and hawks in this area. We will have the opportunity to observe domesticated llamas and alpacas, which graze on ichu (estipa ichu or yellow grass). After the two-hour hike to get the pass, we can enjoy the beautiful views and a refreshing cup of mate de coca. Once we reach the pass, the rest of the day is downhill. We will have to reach our camp called Pacaymayo where we will enjoy our lunch and have rest to recover energy until the next day.

From Sayacmarca we will continue to our lunch spot in Chaquicocha. From here onwards we will be able to walk along the original Inca trail that survives for over 100 years, as we make our way to our final camp, Phuyupatamarca (3,680 meters), this is where we will have our first view of Machu Picchu Mountain and the mountain range surrounding our camp.
